Three arrested with brown sugar worth lakhs in Siliguri

Siliguri, 16th September: In a significant breakthrough, the Special Operation Group (SOG) and undercover cops of Pradhan Nagar police station apprehended three individuals with brown sugar worth lakhs of rupees. The arrested accused have been identified as Parimal Roy, a resident of Babu Para in Naxalbari, and Babar Ali and Gafar Ali, residents of Murshidabad.


As per information, both Babar and Gafar arrived in Siliguri with huge quantities of brown sugar with the intention of trafficking. Following this, both the accused were approaching Siliguri’s Darjeeling More for delivery of brown sugar. Meanwhile, Parimal arrived on a two-wheeler to receive the delivery.

Meanwhile, the undercover cops of Pradhan Nagar police station along with the SOG team launched a joint operation and initiated a search on all three accused on the basis of suspicion at the Durgaguri area adjacent to Darjeeling More. Following this, police recovered a bag containing 2 Kg of Brown sugar from their possession.


Subsequently, all three were arrested under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act. According to police sources, the market value of the seized brown sugar is worth lakhs of rupees. Following the arrest, the accused will be produced before Siliguri Court on Sunday. Currently, the police are engaged in detailed investigation of the incident.
