Three arrested with brown sugar worth ₹20 lakhs in Siliguri before smuggling attempt

Siliguri, 27th October: In a joint operation, the Special Operations Group (SOG) and the Matigara Police arrested three individuals with brown sugar in Siliguri. The arrested suspects have been identified as Akhruj Jaman, Bilal Sheikh, and Krishan Barman, all residents of Malda and Cooch Behar.

Acting on a tip-off, the police stopped the trio near the Jora Bridge in Matigara on Saturday night based on suspicion. A search revealed 515 grams of brown sugar, valued at approximately ₹20 lakh. Police also seized a scooter belonging to the suspects.

During interrogation, it was revealed that Akhruj and Bilal had traveled from Malda to Siliguri to meet Krishan Barman. They intended to deliver the brown sugar using Barman’s scooter when they were apprehended by the police.

The arrested individuals have been presented in Siliguri court on Sunday while the police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
