Cooch Behar, 16th December: Stir ensued in Cooch Behar’s Chilkirhat Market after thieves targeted a gold shop. Reportedly, this morning the locals learned about the theft and informed the shop owner. Prashant Barman reached the spot and found the shutter of his shop broken and gold jewellery worth lakhs of rupees and cash amounting to Rs 5 lakh were missing.
After the incident, local business people and traders expressed anger against the police administration. It is alleged that such incidents of theft constantly happen and is not new. Despite the police station being in close proximity of about 200 meters, they do not take any action and thus, questioned their credibility.
The businesspeople and traders warned of an agitation if no action is taken by the police administration at the earliest. On the other hand, soon after getting the news of the incident, the Kotwali police of Cooch Behar reached the spot and started investigating the entire incident.
