Siliguri, 26th August: Allegations have surfaced that some individuals are collecting money from e-rickshaw (toto) drivers at Court More in Siliguri without authorisation. Following complaints received over the past few days, Siliguri MLA and Tourism Minister Shankar Ghosh visited the area on Wednesday.
Ghosh spoke with toto drivers at the spot and warned those allegedly involved in collecting the money to immediately stop such activities. He also instructed toto drivers not to pay any unauthorised collection.
During his visit, the minister also took note of the long-standing traffic congestion at Court More. According to complaints, toto and auto drivers have been parking their vehicles temporarily on the road and effectively creating an unauthorised stand, resulting in regular traffic congestion at the busy intersection.
Ghosh warned that the temporary stand would be removed if the alleged extortion does not stop. He also instructed traffic police officials to keep a close watch on the situation.
The minister spoke with members of the public in the area and warned that illegal activities and the movement of individuals involved in such activities would not be tolerated in the future.
