Theft case solved within 12 hours in Siliguri; 22 Gopal idols recovered, 3 arrested

Siliguri, 23rd May: Police from Siliguri Police Station have solved a theft case at Gaudiya Math in Deshbandhupara within 12 hours of the incident, recovering 22 stolen Gopal idols and arresting three accused.

According to information, the theft took place late on 21st May night when unidentified miscreants entered the Math and fled with Gopal idols, a large brass bell and other puja items. Following the incident, a police complaint was filed.

Acting on the complaint, police registered a case and launched an investigation. On 22nd May, one accused, Prasenjit Sarkar of Dakshin Shantinagar, was arrested.

During interrogation, he revealed that the stolen items were kept at the residence of Dilip Sarkar and Piyal Sarkar in the Dhakeshwari Kali Temple area near Eastern Bypass.

Acting on the information, police conducted a raid with assistance from Ashighar Outpost and recovered 22 Gopal idols along with other stolen items from Dilip Sarkar’s house. However, several items were found in damaged condition.

Subsequently, Dilip Sarkar and Piyal Sarkar were also arrested. All three accused have been produced before the court. Police said further investigation is underway to identify any additional involvement in the case.
