Ten pilgrims on their way to Jalpesh died due to short-circuit in Cooch Behar

Cooch Behar, 01st August: In a tragic incident, ten pilgrims died due to electrocution while they were on their way to offer water at Jalpaiguir’s Jalpesh temple. The incident took place at around 12 am on Monday at Dharla Bridge under the Mekhliganj Police Station area


As per the information, about 25-30 pilgrims were heading towards Jalpesh temple from Sitalkuchi in Cooch Behar. It has been speculated that the incident took place due to a short circuit in the wiring of the generator of the DJ system fitted in the back of the vehicle.

After being aware of the accident, the driver rushed the injured to Changrabandha Hospital where the doctors declared ten as brought dead.


The deceased have been identified as Shubhankar Barman, Swapan Barman, Badal Barman, Bishal Tirkey, Bibhash Barman, Vikram Vaish, Bapi Barman, Laxman Barman, Manab Barman, and Sushant Barman. All are said to be residents of Sitalkuchi. Furthermore, the injured are being treated at the Super Specialty Hospital in Jalpaiguri.
