Siliguri, 26th May: The case of school teacher Rita Sarkar’s suspicious death in Siliguri has once again come into focus, with her family demanding a fair investigation.
The family has appealed to the state government for a fresh probe, alleging that justice has not been delivered even after eight years.
According to the family, Rita Sarkar was found hanging at her residence on 18 February 2017. Police had recovered a suicide note from the scene, in which she allegedly named two local Trinamool Congress-linked youth leaders, Mithun Das and Subir Saha, holding them responsible for her death.
The note allegedly mentioned repeated harassment, stalking, and mental torture by the accused during her daily commute. It also claimed that no action was taken due to political influence. The accused were arrested after the incident but were later granted bail, and the case remains pending in court.
The teacher’s mother has stated that the family has not received justice in eight years and alleged that the investigation was not conducted properly at the time due to political pressure. She has now expressed hope for a fair investigation.
The family is planning to approach the court to seek reopening of the case. Meanwhile, BJP leaders have met the family and assured support in their demand for justice.
