Tea workers’ union submits memorandum over key demands in Siliguri

Siliguri, 01st July: Raising several demands of tea garden workers in Darjeeling district, the Darjeeling District Chiya Kaman Majdoor Union submitted a memorandum to the Additional Labour Commissioner at Shramik Bhawan on Wednesday.

The union stated that tea workers have been facing multiple issues for a long time. Their key demands include ensuring land rights for workers, increasing minimum daily wages, timely payment of pending pensions, and addressing the prevailing situation at Longview Tea Estate.

The memorandum highlighted a total of five major demands raised on behalf of the workers.

The union also alleged that no effective steps were taken on these issues during the previous government’s tenure, and claimed that even after the change in government, adequate progress has not been made to resolve the problems.

They urged the administration to take prompt action in the interest of tea workers and called for a permanent solution to their long-standing issues.
