Afghan national arrested at Panitanki border with fake Indian documents, Indian friend also held

Kharibari, 24th August: An Afghan national was arrested at the Panitanki border in Kharibari after he went to the immigration office before travelling to Nepal. His Indian friend was also arrested in connection with the case.

The arrested Afghan national has been identified as Abdulla Khan. Police recovered an Indian Aadhaar card, voter ID, bank account and driving licence from his possession. A Look Out Circular (LOC) had reportedly been issued against him by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO).

According to police sources, the accused had been staying in India for a long time and allegedly obtained fake documents in exchange for money. He was residing in Shibpur, Howrah, along with his friend Shankar Banik, a resident of Duttabad in Bidhannagar.

Cases have been registered against both accused under multiple sections. They were produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Monday. Kharibari Police are investigating the matter.
