Public meeting held in Naxalbari over key issues concerning the hills

Naxalbari, 23rd August: A public meeting was held in Naxalbari over key issues concerning the hills, including a political and constitutional solution, the Gorkhaland demand, and the status of 11 ethnic communities.

Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) supremo Bimal Gurung, party leader Roshan Giri, and Darjeeling BJP MLA Noman Rai attended the meeting. Representatives of various organisations representing the Dhimal, Rajbanshi, Koch, Kamtapuri, and Adivasi communities were also present.

Addressing the gathering, Bimal Gurung said that discussions on a constitutional solution had already taken place and described the dialogue with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari as positive.

Gurung further stated that a committee headed by Interlocutor Pankaj Kumar Singh would be formed shortly to take forward discussions on the issues. He expressed hope that the longstanding demands and concerns would be resolved soon.
