Rajganj, 11th October: On Tuesday, the Cheulibari Tea Estate workers protested by blocking the road at the Bagdogra More of Ambari-Belakoba state highway. The protesting tea workers staged the road blockade demanding a 20 percent bonus. About 500 workers participated in the demonstration under the leadership of CPI (M’s) labor organization CITU.
As per reports, the workers claimed that the tea garden authority provided a 20 percent bonus last year and the same has been anticipated even this year. However, the owners planned for a 19 percent bonus this year, which prompted the protest.
In this regard, the workers stated that the demonstrations would continue upon failure to address their demands. Meanwhile, the police of Belakoba Outpost arrived at the spot and normalized the traffic congestion.
