Siliguri, 31st December: On Sunday, young swimmers along with their guardians staged a protest at the Bikash Ghosh Memorial Swimming Pool located at Kanchenjunga Stadium in Siliguri, demanding renovation and cleanliness of the pool.
According to reports, the protestors alleged that the swimming pool was in a dilapidated condition for a prolonged time and was left unrepaired. They further added that the lavatory of the swimming pool required immediate cleaning. Additionally, the swimmers face several problems during their training. In the meantime, Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar and other public officials visited the swimming pool on Saturday to assess the situation.
In this regard, Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar informed that the Mayor is out of station for treatment and has been alerted of the issue regarding the swimming pool. At present, the SJDA (Siliguri-Jalpaiguri Development Authority) is in charge of the renovations while the entire project is being closely monitored and reported to the Mayor.
