Siliguri 08th May: Sensation prevailed after a youth was arrested on suspicion of being a KLO militant. The arrested has been identified as Dhan Kumar Barman (alias Swapan) resident of Cooch Behar. Acting on a tip-off, the STF arrested Swapan from the Indo-Nepal border.
Reportedly, Swapan was a student at Toofanganj College and allegedly approached KLO after he dropped out of college in 2020. STF sources said that the youth was in touch with KLO Chief Jiwan Singh and often used to talk on the phone as well. Police officials have obtained numerous pieces of evidence against him.
On Monday, STF DSP Sudip Bhattacharya maintained that the accused is a resident of Cooch Behar, and recently was in contact with KLO. He also went to Nagaland for training and returned to North Bengal a few days back. He was on a mission to enter Nepal but was nabbed by the police before he could execute his plan. Swapan has been kept under police custody for further interrogation.
