Student drowns to death in Siliguri, parents hold school administration responsible

Siliguri, 30th June: A student at Dakshin Santinagar Hindi Jr High School of Jalpaiguri, Rajganj identified as Durgesh Kamati drowned while bathing. He was a resident of Ward No. 34, DS Colony under Siliguri Municipal Corporation. 


Reportedly, after school, Durgesh with his five friends went to an inundated area of Siliguri’s adjoining Jabrabhita housing complex to take a bath, where he drowned to death.

After the incident, the family of the deceased reached the Dakshin Santinagar Hindi Jr High School and accused school authorities of negligence as Durgesh’s bag was still inside the classroom. In response to this, one of the school’s teachers stated that due to rainfall on Tuesday, the students had left their bags inside the classroom, further dismissing all allegations as baseless. Meanwhile, the NJP police also reached the spot.
