State to aid family of teacher who died of COVID-19: Minister Goutam Deb

Siliguri, 09th July: The state government has decided to provide all possible help to the family of the teacher who died of COVID-19 in Siliguri. The announcement was made by State Tourism Minister Goutam Deb on Thursday.


It is to recall that on July 06, a teacher residing in the annexed area of ​​Pradhan Nagar died of the fatal coronavirus. Stunned by the teacher’s death, his wife tried to commit suicide by jumping in front of a train with their two daughters.

Fortunately, the three were rescued and were initially admitted to a private nursing home. After their condition deteriorated, they were transferred to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH). According to doctors, the condition of all three is stable as of now. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also expressed grief over the painful incident.


On Thursday, following the instructions of the Chief Minister, State Tourism Minister Goutam Deb held a meeting with NBMCH Principal Dr. Prabir Kumar Deb, NBMCH Superintendent Kaushik Samaddar, Dean of the Hospital Sandipan Dey and other officials.

After the meeting, Minister Goutam Deb announced that the CM has decided to extend all possible help to the family of the deceased teacher.

The Minister further informed that the COVID-19 report of the deceased teacher’s wife has come back negative. But both of their children have tested positive for the virus. He said that all three will be provided with the best treatment so that they can return home as soon as possible.
