State Government takes initiatives to help migrant laborers reach home

Jalpaiguri, 25th April: Due to the nation-wide lockdown, around 5000 migrant laborers were stranded in the cold-storages of Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar districts for the past several days.


In this regard, the State Government has taken a step forward and made arrangements to help them reach their respective homes.

So far, 112 laborers from the Jalpaiguri Teesta Cold Storage have been sent to North 24 Parganas in three buses. A police force were deployed in all the three buses. The district administration also arranged food and water for the travelers.


After reaching home, all the laborers have been advised to stay in 14-day home quarantine.

Jalpaiguri District Magistrate Abhishek Tiwari stated that the process to send all the stranded laborers back is being initiated.
