Siliguri, 28th December: An official of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has been arrested by the police of the Matigara police station in connection with an alleged embezzlement of several lakhs of rupees. The arrested individual, identified as Amit Kumar Singh, was serving as an accountant at the 8th Battalion of the SSB.
As per the allegations, Constable Amit Kumar Singh exploited his position to commit fraud by manipulating bills related to food supplies and the salaries of the jawans. The scam is reported to have begun in July when Singh started increasing bills and gradually embezzled over ₹21 lakh by November. The funds were transferred to his own account, and the fraud was uncovered in the same month.
Subsequently, the SSB authorities filed a written complaint with the Matigara police. Acting on the complaint, the police launched an investigation and made the arrest on Friday night from the SSB’s 8th Battalion camp. Amit was presented in a Siliguri court on Saturday while the Matigara police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
