Sports Minister Laxmi Ratan Shukla resigns from West Bengal cabinet

Minister of State for Department of Youth Services and Sports Laxmi Ratan Shukla on Tuesday resigned from his post just ahead of 2021 West Bengal Assembly Elections.

Cricketer-turned-politician Laxmi Ratan Shukla also tendered his resignation from the post of the Trinamool Congress district president in Howrah. He sent his resignation letter Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee and a copy of it to Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar.

“Anyone can resign. He wrote in his resignation letter that he wants to give more time to sports and will continue as an MLA. Don’t take it in a negative way,” Banerjee said.

Shukla was a right-handed middle-order batsman and a right-arm medium-pace bowler. He also played for the Bengal cricket team and represented Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Daredevils, and the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. He is the second minister after Suvendu Adhikari to resign from the state cabinet.
