Sourav Chakraborty takes initiative to re-launch Mahananda Action Plan and Sewage treatment plant

Siliguri, 20th August: Sourav Chakraborty took the initiative to re-launch Mahananda Action Plan and Sewage Treatment Plant after being appointed as the chairman of Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA).

Incidentally, during the Left tenure, these two schemes were launched to protect Mahananda, Jorapani, and Panchanai rivers from pollution. However, the work stopped later. Work resumed in 2012 but stalled again. After finally taking over as the chairman of the SJDA board, Sourav Chakraborty said that work on these two projects would be given utmost importance.

A meeting was held at the SJDA office on Friday. The meeting was attended by Green Tribunal member Shaibal Dasgupta, State Urban Development Agency (SUDA), Siliguri Municipal Corporation, and SJDA officials.

After the meeting, Chairman Sourav Chakraborty said that the Mahananda Action Plan and the Sewage Treatment Plant would be given utmost importance. If these two projects are done, the pollution of Mahananda, as well as Jora Pani and Panchanai rivers, will reduce. At present, 63 projects are being implemented under SJDA.
