SOG nabs three with over 5000 bottles of banned cough syrup in Siliguri Junction

Siliguri, 20th July: The Special Operations Group (SOG) arrested three persons with a substantial amount of banned cough syrups from Siliguri Junction area. The arrested have been identified as Dharmendra Singh, Devendra Singh and Shiv Kumar.


Reportedly, the SOG received a tip-off regarding suspicious consignment inside two vans parked near the Siliguri Junction bus counter. Acting promptly, SOG reached the spot and searched the area. During this, gunny bags filled with large number of banned cough syrup bottles were recovered. The personnel of Pradhan Nagar police station was also called in. The article was seized and legal procedures were conducted in the presence of Deputy Magistrate. Reportedly, more than 5000 bottles of cough syrup were recovered from 25 sacks.


According to sources, the consignment was being smuggled from Siliguri to Guwahati. The market value of the seized banned cough syrup is estimated to be worth lakhs of rupees. Furthermore, the three arrested were presented in court on Wednesday after registering a case under NDPS.
