Siliguri, 09th August: A team of Special Operation Group (SOG) arrested a person with brown sugar worth lakhs of rupees at Kankata More under Ashighar outpost area on Monday night. The accused has been identified as Bijay Barman, resident of Biswas Colony, Matigara.
Reportedly, SOG received a tip-off regarding the smuggling of brown sugar from Murshidabad to Siliguri on a bus. Acting on the information, the team nabbed Bijay Burman as soon as the said bus reached Kankata More late in the evening. Upon searching, 250 grams of brown sugar worth 50 lakh rupees were recovered from Barman’s possession.
A case has been registered against him under the NDPS Act, and the accused will be presented in Jalpaiguri court today.
