SMC takes initiative to reduce traffic congestion in Siliguri

Siliguri, 16th July: Intending to reduce traffic congestion in the city, long-distance buses will not be allowed to enter the city from now on. Buses for different states will leave from Matigara Parivahan Nagar. The new rule is likely to be implemented from this month itself.

The BoA chairman and members of Siliguri Municipal Corporation held a meeting with the police officials on Friday. A detailed discussion was held on the issue. As various long-distance private buses leave from Siliguri Junction, huge traffic congestion gets created throughout the day in different parts of the city. Hence, it has been decided that from now on, buses will not be allowed to enter the city and will operate from Matigara Parivahan Nagar.

On the other hand, private buses for different districts will leave from P. C. Mittal bus stand. Police surveillance will be kept at these two places. SMC administrator Goutam Deb said that to reduce traffic congestion, long distance and big buses will not be allowed to enter the city.
