Rajganj, 31st July: Small tea growers staged a protest at Sannyasipara in Rajganj by stopping a vehicle carrying tea leaves and dumping the leaves on the road, alleging unequal implementation of MRL rules.
The protesters alleged that although the purchase and sale of tea leaves have been stopped in several areas, the same rules are not being applied uniformly to everyone.
They claimed that some growers’ tea leaves are not being accepted citing MRL (Maximum Residue Limit) testing, while some tea factories are allegedly continuing to purchase green leaves from their own gardens secretly.
The growers said they joined the protest against the alleged disparity in the implementation of rules. They demanded that if MRL-related regulations are enforced, they should be applied equally to all.
A protester said, “If the MRL test report or related documents are shown to us, we will allow the vehicle to leave. But we will not accept two different rules for the same matter.”
