Siliguri’s Surya Nagar ground turning into den of drug racketeers, Ward Councilor demands police action

Siliguri, 07th June: The peace and quiet Surya Nagar ground where the local residents come for better mood, reduction in stress and anxiety has now become a den of drug racketeers. Locals allege several outsiders gather at the spot, especially during the evenings. The society in Ward No. 23 is allegedly being disturbed by frequent quarrels and scuffles that often break out on the ground. As the drug dealers and addicts rule the roost, people are now shying away from coming to the place.

The locals added that no proper solution has been provided despite raising the matter numerous times. Meanwhile, patrolling campaigns were also conducted in the area a few times by the Siliguri police. However, the problem stayed persistent. With no other option left, the Ward No. 23 Councillor Lakshmi Paul along with local residents have once again sought immediate intervention from the police. They submitted a memorandum to the Siliguri police station in this regard on Tuesday.

Addressing the media, the councillor stated that the elderlies of the ward are no longer able to go to the ground in the evening for their walks. Paul further alleged that several young men and women under the influence of drugs loiter on the ground in the evening. The residents are hopeful that strict action will be taken after the submission of their memorandum.
