Siliguri’s Kiranchandra crematorium to undergo renovation, Mayor inspects

Siliguri, 09th January: Siliguri’s Kiranchandra cremation ground will undergo renovation work in the upcoming days. On Tuesday, Siliguri Mayor Goutam Deb took stock of the repair work at the cremation ground.

It is to be noted that previously Former Minister Ashok Bhattacharjee had installed an electric furnace at the crematorium. As a result, the crematory process had become comparatively easier. However, over time, the place had become dilapidated and in need of immediate renovation. Additionally, due to the lack of adequate security, the crematorium has become a hotspot for intruders. This led to the frequent occurrence of criminal activities within the crematorium leaving the people to feel unsafe.

In alignment with the several problems, the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) has undertaken the initiative to repair and secure the crematorium. Currently, a second furnace is anticipated to be installed in the crematorium in addition to the repair work. In a significant collaboration of the Rajya Sabha MP and the SMC, the crematorium will be renovated.

On Tuesday, the Mayor conducted an inspection and realized that the crematorium lacked adequate security. As a result, CCTV cameras will be installed in the cremation ground including a police camp. Further, the Mayor added that all necessary facilities including a canteen and a seating area will be available following the completion of the renovation work.
