Siliguri, 27th July: The long-awaited Burdwan Road flyover was officially inaugurated on Monday by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari in Siliguri.
Following the inauguration, the Chief Minister, accompanied by state ministers, Members of Parliament, MLAs and senior administrative officials, walked across the newly inaugurated flyover to inspect the project.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the previous state government had “declared war” against the Centre, which resulted in the delay in inaugurating the flyover. He also said that 500 new Road Over Bridges (ROBs) would be constructed in the coming years through a joint initiative of the Railways and the state government.
Reiterating the government’s focus on North Bengal’s development, Suvendu Adhikari said the region would witness extensive development in the coming years. He further said that offices of several state government departments would be opened at Uttar Kanya so that people from North Bengal would no longer have to travel to Kolkata for government-related work.
The inauguration of the long-awaited Burdwan Road flyover is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in one of Siliguri’s busiest corridors.
