Siliguri woman trafficked to Kolkata and later to Rajasthan on the pretext of job offer, one arrested

Siliguri, 25th May: In a major breakthrough, the Siliguri Metropolitan Police rescued a woman who had been trafficked under the pretext of a job offer. Reportedly, about two months ago, Munna Orawn left for Kolkata with a woman promising to provide her a nursing work. The woman is a resident of Maharaj Colony of Jyotinagar in Ward No. 04 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation. While Munna Oraon is a resident of Thakkar under Matigara police station area.
According to the woman’s husband and family members, they began to worry as they had not heard from her ever she left for Kolkata. They then lodged a written complaint of abduction of the woman on May 11 at Khalpara Out Post Outpost. Acting promptly, the police launched an investigation and nabbed the accused Munna Oraon on May 18 from Ward No. 04 area and took him on police remand for 11 days for interrogation.
During the intense interrogation, the police learned that the said woman had been trafficked to Rajasthan. As per the confession, Munna Oraon sold the woman for Rs 40,000 and married her to another man. After a month, the woman was again sold to a third person for Rs 1,00,000. After gathering the information, the Khalpara Out Post police left for Rajasthan to rescue the victim. The woman was rescued from Rajasthan and was brought to Siliguri on Tuesday. 
As per the information, the police will send the woman for medical analysis and record her statement under section 164 in front of District Magistrate. The accused is still on police remand. Police are probing the whole matter.
