Siliguri: Woman seeks police’s help after in-laws stop her from entering their home

Siliguri, 07th July: Devyani Roy of Katwa in Purba Bardhaman district is seeking help from the police to help her enter her in-laws’ house located at Ashok Nagar of Siliguri. Reportedly, Devyani married Chiranjit Roy, son of Meghnath Roy, in the year 2019.

As per Devyani’s allegations, her in-laws used to torture her after marriage in demand of dowry. The tormenting escalated to such an extent that her in-laws carried out several foul plays trying to separate her from her husband. Devyani also accused her husband of having an extra marital affair.

Apparently, Devyani was staying at her paternal house in Katwa for about seven months. When she returned to her in-laws’ house, she was not allowed to enter. On Wednesday night, she again tried to enter the house, however, was allegedly pushed out of the gate.

Following a commotion in the neighbourhood, NJP police reached the spot and tried to bring the situation under control. However, the police failed to help Devyani enter her in-laws’ house. Following this, she lodged a written complaint against her in-laws at the NJP police station. Meanwhile, her father-in-law Meghnath Roy stated that Chiranjit has already filed for divorce.
