Siliguri: Woman robbed of jewellery by fraudsters posing as police in Khalpara, probe underway

Siliguri, 24th April: A shocking incident of cheating has come to light from Agrasen Road in Khalpara area of Siliguri, where a woman was allegedly duped and robbed of her gold jewellery by miscreants posing as police personnel.

According to reports, Pushpa Agarwal was returning home in a rickshaw after shopping when two youths intercepted her and introduced themselves as police. They claimed that incidents of snatching had increased in the area and asked her to remove her jewellery for safety reasons.

Trusting them, the woman removed her gold necklace, bangles and rings and placed them on a piece of paper. It is alleged that during this time, the accused secretly replaced the paper and handed her a different packet before fleeing the spot.

Later, after reaching home, she discovered that she had been cheated. The incident created tension in the locality after coming to light.

Police from Khalpara Outpost and Siliguri police station reached the spot and started an investigation. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined to trace the accused.

Locals have alleged that similar incidents have occurred earlier in the area, raising concerns over safety and security.
