Siliguri: Water enters residential area in Durga Nagar Colony after GRPF’s boundary wall cracks

Siliguri, 20th June: Normal life has been disrupted in Durga Nagar Colony after heavy rain lashed Siliguri on Sunday night. The rainwater entered the residential area after the GRPFs boundary wall, near Mahatma Gandhi More (Airview More) cracked.
The residents of Durga Nagar Colony were facing various problems since the construction of the said boundary wall. Allegedly, the GRP officials were informed several times regarding the local’s issues but none were addressed. Eventually, after the heavy downpour, a part of the wall fell last night causing water to enter the houses of the residents.
Ward No. 40 Durga Nagar’s former councillor Parimal Mitra reached the area this morning to take stock of the situation. He also alleged that despite reporting the GRP officials regarding the incident several times, they did not receive any response. He stated that the officials will be notified about last night’s event. Locals are furious over the incident. They alleged that water seeps through the boundary wall and enters their houses even after a light shower. People have suffered the loss of property and damage to furniture.
