Siliguri: Truck owners oppose paid parking and lack of proper systematic arrangements

Siliguri, 08th November: Trucks parked in the truck stand built on railway land in the NJP Station adjacent area will have to pay a parking fee. It is alleged that along with the inconvenience of parking the vehicle at the truck stand, there are no proper lavatory facilities available. Earlier, vehicle owners did not have to pay any fee for parking the vehicles but from now on a fee will be charged if vehicles are parked in the said truck stand.
Railway management has already initiated the process of collecting parking fees through tender. Due to this, the local truck owners have expressed discontentment and protested opposing the decision of the Railway Department.
In this regard, NJP Truck Owners Association secretary Bapi Paul said that the railway department is collecting parking fees without providing any basic facilities. He said that first, the department should provide all the necessary facilities and then collect the fees. He further said that a massive agitation will be launched in the coming days if their demands are not met.
