Siliguri: TMC party worker accused of assaulting Ward Councilor Amar Anand Das arrested

Siliguri, 19th April: Trinamool Congress’ party worker accused of fatally assaulting Ward No. 48 Councilor Amar Anand Das of the same party was arrested. Pradhan Nagar police took Rana Dey Sarkar into custody last night based on the allegations and presented him in Siliguri court today. Cases under 447, 323, 353, 354, 506, 379, and 34 IPS sections have been registered against the accused.


Reportedly, on Monday, Rana Dey met the councillor over cleanliness issues in his ward. Their discussion escalated to a scuffle allegedly leading to him physically assaulting Amar Anand Das. The councillor alleged that he was in a meeting with the members of his ward committee regarding development works. Rana Dey apparently barged into his office, behaved indecently, and jumped on him. In protest against the incident, the councillor lodged a written complaint at the Pradhan Nagar police station.

Meanwhile, while being taken to the police station today, Rana Dey termed the allegations of councillor Amar Anand Das as false. Defending himself, he said that he went to the councillor’s office to talk about cleanliness issues in the ward. He counter-alleged the councillor and accused Amar Anand Das of using abusive words and pushing him out of the office. Rana Dey also accused the councillor of misbehaving with his sister. He denied all allegations and stated that he is being framed.
