Siliguri Police raid gambling den in a hotel, 5 arrested for violating COVID guidelines

Siliguri, 14th June: A team of Special Operations Group (SOG) led by Siliguri ACP East Shubhendra Kumar, based on a tip-off, conducted a raid at Hotel Tourist Inn on Sevoke Road opposite PC Mittal bus stand, late Sunday night.

Munna Sundas, Shekhar Agarwal, Ashish Mukhia, Sagar Kumar and Ved Prakash were apprehended for running a gambling business without any valid documents.

During the operation, one Register book, 02 bundles of playing cards, 100 pcs of poker coins, one DVD player including monitor and pen drive have been seized from their possession.

As per Joy Tudu, DCP East SPC, the accused were found violating COVID-19 guidelines laid by the state. Hence, a specific case under the 34 (WB, G, PNC) Act and Disaster Management Act 188 IPC 269, 270 has been registered at Bhaktinagar Police Station. The arrested were presented in Jalpaiguri court today. To investigate the matter, the police have demanded custody of the five accused from the court.

Meanwhile, several journalists are getting threats from the family members of the arrested and the hotel management for reporting the news.
