Siliguri, 17th May: In a major breakthrough, a team of Siliguri Police Commissionerate’s Detective Department busted the black market in the city. Illegal narcotics and restricted cough syrup from a garage and arrested local resident Raj Hashmi by conducting a campaign in the Kholaibatri area under Matigara police station.
On Monday night, the DD team launched an operation at a garage located in Khalaibhaktiari under Matigara police station area and seized around 700 bottles of banned cough syrup and 9,360 illegal tablets worth Rs 2 lakh. A youth identified as Raja Hashmi, resident of Ward No. 03, was arrested under the charge of possessing the aforementioned drugs.
According to DD sources, the drugs were stored in the garage and distributed across Siliguri. Reportedly, Raja Hashmi has been arrested several times for drug smuggling. The DD team registered a case under the NDPS Act and handed over the accused to the Matigara police station. He was produced in Siliguri Court today.
