Siliguri Police arrest kingpin of the Velvet Pencil Case

Siliguri, 08th October: On July 09, a case was registered at Siliguri Police station against a fraudulent company that had duped several residents of Siliguri and its surrounding areas lakhs of rupees on the pretext of helping them set up units to manufacture velvet pencils.


During the investigation of the case, the police team, under the leadership of SI of Panktanki outpost, conducted extensive raids at Jaipur in Rajasthan and arrested Hemant Sharma, the prime accused, on October 04. Sharma has reportedly cheated the locals of Siliguri more than Rs 1.50 crore.

He was produced before the court in Jaipur, which allowed a seven-day transit remand. The accused was brought to Siliguri on October 07 and will be presented before the designated court on Friday where a petition will be filed seeking further police remand to continue with the investigation.
