Siliguri Municipal Corporation launches drive against illegal hoardings

Siliguri, 02nd July: The Siliguri Municipal Corporation has launched a crackdown against illegal hoardings across the city, targeting unauthorised advertisements installed on roads and footpaths outside shops, shopping malls, and commercial establishments.

According to reports, several hoardings had been erected without permission, encroaching on public spaces and causing inconvenience to pedestrians. The civic body also alleged that such unauthorised installations were resulting in substantial revenue losses.

On Thursday, a special drive was conducted on Sevoke Road, during which several illegal hoardings were removed. Civic workers used gas cutters to dismantle large iron structures, which were subsequently seized.

Sources in the municipal corporation stated that no advertisements or signboards can be installed on roads or footpaths without prior permission. Necessary legal action will be taken against those found violating the rules.

The civic body further stated that the drive will not remain limited to Sevoke Road and that similar operations to remove illegal hoardings will be carried out in different parts of Siliguri in the coming days.
