Jalpaiguri, 08th August: A man allegedly took his seven-month-old daughter away while intoxicated from his wife’s parental home in the Bosepara area of Jalpaiguri on Friday night, triggering concern in the locality.
According to information, the man allegedly entered his wife’s parental home and left with their seven-month-old daughter without informing her. Local residents reportedly noticed him carrying the baby and became suspicious before following him.
When local residents chased him, the man allegedly left the baby by the roadside and fled from the spot. The residents then rescued the child and informed the police.
Police reached the spot after receiving the information. The child’s mother, Geeta Mondal, also arrived at the location after being informed and was reunited with her daughter.
Geeta Mondal alleged that her husband regularly consumes substances and that they have been living separately for a long time because of his substance abuse. She alleged that her husband came to her parental home and took their daughter away.
Local residents said they became suspicious after seeing the man carrying the infant and started following him. They alleged that he abandoned the child by the roadside while fleeing from them.
Police have started an investigation into the incident.
