Siliguri, 08th August: A 64-year-old man was arrested from the Punjabi Para area of Siliguri for allegedly stealing around 2 kg of gold from a passenger travelling on a train.
The accused has been identified as Anmol Jaiswal, a resident of Punjabi Para. The action was taken by Tambaram Railway Police from Chennai with the assistance of Bhakti Nagar Police Station.
According to police sources, the accused’s location was traced to Siliguri during the investigation of a theft case registered at Tambaram Railway Police Station in Chennai. A team from Tambaram Railway Police subsequently reached Siliguri and, with the assistance of Bhakti Nagar Police, conducted an operation in the Punjabi Para area and arrested Jaiswal.
Police sources said that around 2 kg of gold was stolen from a passenger during a train journey, following which police had been searching for the accused.
The accused was produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Saturday. Police sought transit remand to take him to Chennai for further investigation.
The police are currently conducting a detailed investigation into the case.
