Siliguri, 08th August: Work has begun to create a parking facility at the fairground of Kanchenjunga Stadium in Siliguri, in an effort to address the city’s parking problems.
Siliguri MLA and state minister Shankar Ghosh had proposed using the fairground for parking to reduce parking pressure in the city. Following the proposal, work to develop the parking facility has now started.
On Saturday, work began to demolish a section of the wall to facilitate smoother entry and exit of vehicles. A trial run will also begin from Saturday to assess vehicle entry, parking and exit arrangements and identify any difficulties.
Minister Shankar Ghosh is scheduled to visit the site on Sunday to review the arrangements. The administration will assess the trial run and make necessary changes to improve the parking facility.
With parking remaining a major concern for residents, the use of the Kanchenjunga Stadium fairground is being seen as an important step towards providing a more organised parking arrangement in the city.
