Siliguri Municipal Corporation celebrated 208th birth anniversary of Nepali poet Bhanubhakta Acharya

Siliguri, 13th July: Bhanubhakta Acharya, widely regarded as the first writer in the Nepali language, was born on 13th July 1813. He is remembered for translating epics like Ramayana into the Nepali language.


On Wednesday, Siliguri Municipal Corporation celebrated 208th Bhanu Jayanti by offering garlands to the statue of Bhanubhakta Acharya in Siliguri Junction. On this occasion, SMC’s Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar, Chairman Pratul Chakraborty, Mayor-Council, Borough Chairman, and Councilors were present. 


Earlier this morning a procession was conducted from Baghajatin park in Siliguri. The procession traversed various areas of Siliguri and concluded at Siliguri Junction. Programs briefing the life of the Nepali poet were conducted. 

On the occasion, Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar stated that Bhanu Jayanti is celebrated every year with utmost enthusiasm and respect, to commemorate the contribution of Bhanu Bhakta to Nepali literature and language.
