Siliguri Metropolitan Police tightens security measures in Siliguri ahead of Republic Day

Siliguri, 24th January: Siliguri has been shrouded in tight security ahead of Republic Day.


A special team of the police along with the Dog Squad team raided several markets and shopping malls in the city on Monday morning. Security has been tightened to prevent any untoward incidents before Republic Day. Meanwhile, police have initiated separate surveillance on sensitive areas to maintain law and order before SMC polls as per the instructions of the Election Commission.

In this regard, an official of the Siliguri Police Commissionerate said that due to geographical location, there is a threat to Siliguri all year round. People from different places visit this city throughout the year. The hotels are also being kept under special surveillance for this purpose. Not only the police personnel but all other departments are on high alert. Police Commissioner Gourav Sharma himself is keeping a close watch on the security arrangements before Republic Day. Late at night, various police stations and traffic police are carrying out Naka checking at several places in the city.
