Siliguri Metropolitan Police launch campaign against shops dauntlessly selling tobacco products near a school

Siliguri, 21st March: The selling of paan, cigarettes, and tobacco products were banned in shops within 100 meters of educational institutions, two years ago. However, after several allegations of shops dauntlessly selling tobacco products near a school surfaced, the Siliguri Metropolitan Police launched a campaign to implement the guidelines again.


According to sources, the police received a complaint from the school authorities regarding the selling of tobacco products in many shops near the school in Dagapur. Acting promptly, a team of police led by IC of Pradhan Nagar Police Station and West Zone ACP Manish Kumar Yadav raided the area adjacent to the school.


During the course, large quantities of paan, gutkha, cigarettes, and tobacco products were recovered from several shops. Police detained seven people including a woman for violating government instructions. Police asserted that such campaigns will be conducted in the coming days as well.
