Siliguri Metropolitan Police in action against illegal call centres in the city

Siliguri, 14th November: Siliguri Metropolitan Police has stepped up the campaign against illegal call centres in the city. The move comes after Telangana police launched operations in Siliguri and arrested seven men in connection to friendship clubs and illegal call centres. Also, the Siliguri Metropolitan Police received numerous complaints regarding several illegal call centres operating in the city.


In this context, Pradhan Nagar Police, based on a tip-off, launched operations at a residence in Gurung Busty and detained two youths, identified as Rahul Baitha and Chanchal Das, on Wednesday. Several documents comprising of names and phone numbers of youths from other states were recovered from the spot. 

After the duo was produced in court on Friday, they were taken on four days police remand. Upon interrogation, the accused have reportedly revealed several shocking pieces of information. 


Dhruv Prasad, who hails from Kanki, has been identified as the owner of the building. Currently, Tumal Para resident Ajay Soni is looking after the building. Reportedly, a person named Rabin Mallick rented the aforementioned building in the month of June this year. After which the trade of illegal call centre under the guise of business started. Allegedly, the owner of the building was kept in dark regarding this illicit business. 

As per the report, Ajay Soni has lodged a complaint at the Pradhan Nagar police station regarding the illegal call centre being operated in the building. After the registration of the case, the police are now in search of Rabin Mallick.

On the other hand, Arvind Jaiswal, a resident of Champsari No. 7 road under SMC Ward No. 46, also filed a complaint regarding an illegal call centre operating in his flat. According to the information, the couple, who hails from Bihar, had rented a 3 BHK flat from Arvind. The agreement was signed to run a business in the flat.

Later in the month of July, the said couple along with a third person signed another agreement saying that they would open a job agency in the flat. Arvind Jaiswal alleges that for the last two months, the couple from Bihar and the third person who signed that agreement are absconding. 

Reportedly, after running a search operation in the flat, the police recovered ten computers and about seven mobile phones. At present, the police have started an investigation in all the cases and are looking into the matter.
