TMC loses control of Sukhani and Majhiali Gram Panchayats in Rajganj as BJP leaders take charge

Rajganj, 12th August: Trinamool Congress has lost control of the Sukhani and Majhiali Gram Panchayats in Rajganj, with BJP representatives taking charge as Pradhan and Upa-Pradhan following the formation of new boards on Wednesday.

According to reports, BJP’s Uttam Roy and Sabita Biswas were elected as Pradhan and Upa-Pradhan, respectively, of Sukhani Gram Panchayat, while Sugrib Roy and Rinku Gharami Roy took charge as Pradhan and Upa-Pradhan of Majhiali Gram Panchayat.

According to the results of the 2023 Panchayat elections, TMC had won 18 of the 21 seats in Sukhani Gram Panchayat, while the BJP had secured three. During the recent board formation, 16 members were present, including 13 from TMC. Despite retaining a majority in the panchayat, the Pradhan and Upa-Pradhan posts went to BJP representatives.

Similarly, TMC had won 12 of the 19 seats in Majhiali Gram Panchayat, while the BJP secured six and the CPI(M) one. During the board formation, 12 TMC members and six BJP members were present. However, BJP representatives subsequently assumed the two key posts.

The development follows the resignations of the TMC Pradhans of both Sukhani and Majhiali Gram Panchayats in June amid the political shift in the state. The process to form new boards began soon after.

On Wednesday, BJP representatives formally assumed charge as Pradhan and Upa-Pradhan in both gram panchayats through the board formation process.
