Siliguri: Police seize two properties worth Rs 68 lakh linked to alleged drug trade kingpin ‘Pushpa’

Siliguri, 12th August: Siliguri Metropolitan Police has intensified its action against the financial network behind the alleged illegal drug trade, moving beyond arrests to identify and seize properties allegedly acquired through proceeds of the trade.

As part of the drive, Matigara Police seized two properties worth around Rs 68 lakh allegedly belonging to Sarina Khatun alias Pushpa, who has been identified by police as an alleged kingpin in the drug trade.

Siliguri Metropolitan Police Commissioner Syed Waquar Raza said action against those involved in the drug trade would not be limited to arrests. Properties allegedly acquired through proceeds from illegal activities would also be investigated and legal action would be taken against them.

According to the Police Commissioner, the process of seizing properties linked to three other alleged kingpins involved in the drug trade in the Bagdogra and Siliguri police station areas has also been initiated.

Police are examining the financial activities, bank accounts and property-related documents of the accused in these cases. If an investigation establishes that a property was acquired using proceeds from the illegal drug trade, it will be seized through due legal process.

The action is being viewed as another step in the ongoing crackdown on the illegal drug trade in Siliguri.
