Siliguri Mahaveer Sthan Kudra Vyavasayi Kalyan Samithi celebrated foundation day with various social programs

Siliguri, 13th July: Siliguri Mahabirsthan Khudra Byabsai Kalyan Samiti, started a special initiative to make a plastic-free city. On the commemoration of the committee’s 24th foundation day, programs like tree plantation, sapling distribution, and campaign against single-use plastic were started. Siliguri Municipal Corporation Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar expressed this initiative as a commendable step towards a sustainable city. 


A function was organized by the Samiti in their office on Wednesday. The event witnessed the presence of esteemed guests like Siliguri Municipal Corporation Deputy Mayor, Ranjan Sarkar along with Ward No. 28 Councillor Samprita Das, Mayor-Council Manik Dey and committee members were present. At the end of the program, the guests along with the members paid a visit to the marketplace of Mahabirsthan. 


Messages like “Plant Trees, Save Lives”, “Make plastic-free environment for a healthy society” were given to the traders. During this, plastic carry bags were seized from the shops in the area and posters saying “Say No to Plastic Bags” were put up. 

In this regard, Ranjan Sarkar stated that the campaign against plastic in the city has been started from July 01. He commended all the business organization for joining hands together against the usage of plastic. The Deputy Mayor also appealed to the common mass to stop using plastic.
