Siliguri-Jalpaiguri Development Authority takes action to ease traffic congestion in Siliguri

Siliguri, May 23: In a bid to address the persistent issue of traffic congestion in Siliguri, the Siliguri-Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA) has undertaken a significant initiative. The authority plans to construct alternative roads as a solution to alleviate the traffic jam problem.


A crucial meeting was held today at the PWD Inspection Bungalow, attended by SJDA Chairman Saurabh Chakraborty and Siliguri Mayor Goutam Deb. Darjeeling District Magistrate S Ponnambalam, SJDA board members Gautam Goswami, Ranjansheel Sharma, Parimal Mitra, Rambhajan Mahato, and other officials were also present.

The issue of traffic congestion has emerged as a major concern for Siliguri. In response, the Siliguri-Jalpaiguri Development Authority has devised a plan to construct a new road that will tackle the traffic jam problem. The proposed road will connect the Jalpaimore area of Siliguri and pass through Chowringhee More, leading up to at Matigara Haat. Additionally, in an effort to mitigate traffic congestion, the truck terminus of Transport Department will be relocated to Ghoshpukur, while a new bus stand will be established in Transport Nagar.


SJDA Chairman Saurabh Chakraborty affirmed that work on this project would commence soon. Once implemented, he said that they expect that the general public will experience relief from the persistent traffic congestion issue.
