Siliguri, 25th August: The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) staged a protest in Siliguri on Tuesday over allegations that eligible women have been excluded from the Annapurna Yojana and several other social welfare schemes.
The organisation took out a march from Baghajatin Park, which reached the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC). However, police stopped the march at the municipal corporation gate. Later, a five-member delegation from the organisation was allowed to enter the premises.
The delegation met SMC officials and discussed the issue, demanding that the matter be resolved at the earliest. The organisation alleged that the exclusion of genuine beneficiaries has deprived several economically disadvantaged women of government benefits.
The organisation demanded that the verification process be completed promptly and that eligible women be included in the beneficiary list.
According to information, SMC authorities assured the delegation that necessary steps would be taken regarding the matter.
