Siliguri, 25th August: A joint team of administrative officials, Siliguri Metropolitan Police and the Enforcement Branch conducted inspections at various markets in Siliguri on Tuesday to monitor the prices of essential commodities and keep daily-use items under control. The inspection was carried out following directions from the Chief Minister.
The inspection drive was conducted from Matigara Haat to Champasari vegetable market. Officials ranging from the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) level visited different markets and inspected shops.
The team checked the prices and stock of essential commodities, including daily-use food items, vegetables, fruits and other necessary goods. Officials also examined whether traders were artificially increasing prices and charging customers more than the prevailing rates.
During the drive, shopkeepers were instructed to keep the prices of essential commodities at normal and prescribed levels. They were also warned against black marketing and unnecessary price hikes.
The administration said monitoring of markets would continue to keep a check on the prices of essential commodities.
