Siliguri DS Colony snatching case: Rs 50,000 recovered by police

Siliguri, 21st September: In another significant breakthrough in the Siliguri DS Colony snatching incident, police recovered Rs 50,000 out of the 80,000 rupees looted by two miscreants. 


It has to be noted that, last Friday, Babita Roy, a resident of Ramnagar Basti adjacent to Gora More of Fulbari I Gram Panchayat (GP), was returning home in a Toto (e-rickshaw) after withdrawing Rs 60,000 from a bank in NJP area for her son’s treatment. As the toto reached DS Colony area, two youths, came from behind on a two-wheeler and forcibly snatched the bag containing money from the woman. As claimed, the bag already had Rs 20,000, and an additional Rs 60,000 was withdrawn from the bank. The miscreants allegedly made way with a total of 80,000 rupees. After the incident, Babita Roy filed a complaint at NJP police station.

Based on the complaint, the police, who were investigating with the help of CCTV cameras, arrested Anup Gwala from Naukaghat on Tuesday night. Following the subsequent interrogation of the accused, Rs 50,000 was recovered by the police.


Meanwhile, Babita Roy and her family expressed happiness after the recovery and lauded the role of the police. At present, police are engaged in further investigation to recover the rest of the looted money.
